Rain Gardens

"A Landscape Tool to Improve Water Quality"

Rain Gardens Bloomington Normal ILRain Gardens can turn your yard into a beautiful landscape and help protect the environment at the same time. Before you start digging up your yard, it is important to understand what a Rain Garden is and the benefits of having one or two in your yard. Below is a brief description of Rain Gardens, but by clicking on and opening our
Rain Garden Brochure, you will learn more about Rain Gardens and step by step instructions to installing a Rain Garden.

What is a Rain Garden?
"A Rain Garden is a garden which takes advantage of rainfall and storm water runoff in its design and plant selection. Rain Gardens don't need to be large or complicated. They need to be dug to create a shallow depression (to hold that water) and they need to be planted with plants that will survive periodic flooding and often long periods of dry weather."

What are some of the Benefits of a Rain Garden?
Some of the benefits of a Rain Garden are that they filter runoff pollution, remove standing water in your yard and reduce garden maintenance.

Designs of Rain Gardens:
There are three main designs of Rain Gardens. Rain Garden designs vary according to homeowner's preferences, site conditions, soil type and water volume. The three designs are Rock Garden, Blended Garden and Natural Garden. Below are some pictures of a Blended Garden that we installed in 2008. Keep watching for more pictures of Rain Gardens as we get closer to Spring.
