As spring approaches it is easy to get distracted and forget about the little things that count when it comes to your landscaping. Here are some reminders to keep you on track and get your landscaping looking great all year round.

February

  • Dormant pruning

March

  • Dormant pruning
  • Apply Gypsum to lawns and landscape beds
  • Spring cleanup

April

  • Re-edge beds and topdress or cultivate mulch
  • Begin planting trees, shrubs and perennials
  • Divide perennials
  • Fertilize bulbs

Mid April – Mid May

  • Spring lawn fertilization with crabgrass preventer
  • Begin mowing, first cutting set mower at 2.5" height then 3" for rest of the season
  • Deadhead tulips and daffodils, leave foliage

Mid May – Early June

  • Plant annual flowers
  • Fertilize flowers, trees and shrubs, use systemic insecticide with Iminicloprid to prevent Emerald Ash Borer and Japanese Beetle damage
  • Remove spent bulb foliage

June

  • Fertilize lawn
  • Fertilize and apply preemergent to flower beds

Father's Day

  • Start watching for Bagworms, spray with Dipel as soon as they emerge.

Mid June – End July

  • Summer pruning
  • Continue to fertilize annual flowers

Mid July – Mid Aug

  • Apply grub control
  • Monitor irrigation don't over water

August

  • Cultivate mulch and apply preemergent
  • Stop summer pruning, spring flower buds are being set

Mid Aug – Mid Sept

  • Aerate and overseed lawns
  • Divide perennials

September

  • Fertilize lawn
  • Core aeration
  • Fertilize trees and shrubs

October

  • Core aeration
  • Apply Gypsum
  • Winterize irrigation system
  • Plant spring flowering bulbs

November

  • Fertilize lawn
  • Last cutting of lawn at 2"
  • Leaf cleanup
  • Perennial cleanup
  • Fall pruning once trees and shrubs are dormant
